Videos and Podcasts in the Classroom

Using technology in the classroom. Source: Edudemic; accessed on 23 March 2013

Creating videos and podcasts in the classroom has many educational benefits, such as improving research, writing and social skills. As a result of rapid technological developments, many schools in the 21st century have been equipped with various ICT tools aiming to assist students in expressing themselves in more effective ways.

Voki is a program, which allows students to create their own character and give it their own voice or use text-to-speech function. It has many language options, Polish being one of them, which I have used in the above presentation. I feel Voki would particularly benefit shy students to more freely speak their minds. It can be used across different disciplines to summarise stories, provide reflection and thorough insight into various topics.
Voki could be used by teachers to create PowerPoint presentations and provide short overview/introduction to the lessons.

Xtranormal is a fun, easy-to-use, video-making tool allowing students to create their own interactive stories, which could be incorporated into daily class activities. I think it would appeal to a wide audience as it supports different learning styles.
